So as my 21st birthday is tomorrow, I wanted to take a second to reflect on where I am in my life and what I have learned in my 21 years.
To me, turning 21 is significant because you're actually an adult and can finally legally do what you want and go wherever you want (without being denied by a bouncer). With that is the realization that the years of relying on your parents and making excuses is coming to a close. This is both exciting and sad. You're finally independent, but now you actually have to be independent.
I'm really thankful for my childhood and teenage years because it has brought me to a point that I feel confident in the person I am and the decisions that I have made for myself thus far. I'm becoming more confident than I've ever been, which is something that I am really proud of. I owe this to the people I have chosen to surround myself with who bring me up, instead of the other way around.
Most importantly I've learned to enjoy every age and year for what it's worth. I try to never wish to be younger or older, instead, I try to enjoy the unique aspects of each age (even the awkward high school dances). I want to look back on my life and know that I was fully immersed in the moments I was experiencing. Everything has the right time and place, and if you try to rush it'll just turn out wrong. And right now I am 20, so for now, I'm going to go enjoy that.
